The Venomous Abyss

Eight bosses across four Raid Finder wings. Two wings are open now, the third opens this reset.

Bosses & wings

Organized-group route: Nek'zali first, then the two middle branches in either order, then The Twin Fangs, The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek. Raid Finder just walks the wings in order.

Verify The wiki and the Blizzard news post differ slightly on where The Twin Fangs sits in the clear route. Wing membership above follows the published Raid Finder schedule — check the Adventure Guide.

Voidcore targetsBonus rolls cost 1 this season. Spend them on Nek'zali (trinket) and Ula'tek (legs), not filler bosses. On Heroic a Voidcore gives a Myth-track item — often better than a random vault pick.
Verify Tier set: the 4-piece gives Judgment a 20% chance to grant Infusion of Light, and Holy Light always grants it — that changes your Holy Light usage, so re-read the priority once it lands. The exact 2-piece text wasn't on the pages I read; check the set tooltip.
CatalystCatalyst converts non-tier gear to tier and keeps original stats and effects this season. Combined with Raid Finder access you can reach the 2-piece without setting foot in Normal.

Early-season guides · verify live

Boss briefings merge the dungeon-journal text on Warcraft Wiki with Icy Veins and Method’s Heroic guides, researched Sep 2, and the guide author’s Holy notes from Sep 1 (wow.gg, Skycoach, Maxroll). Same format as the dungeon pages: what each ability does, and what you personally do about it.

Verify Sources disagree on details worth knowing: what triggers Nek’zali’s intermission (50% health vs 100 energy), the Twin Fangs venom threshold (9 vs 10 stacks), and which Sszorak and Coiled Altar mechanics are Heroic-only. Each boss shows both readings. Maxroll notes its guidance for the final two bosses predates the race finishing — treat those briefings as provisional.

Nek'zali the Soulcoiler

Boss 1 · keep the well clean

Two stages and an intermission built around one rule: nothing reaches the Soulcoil Well. Every add that touches it feeds Nek'zali 5 energy and hits the raid; at 100 energy she enrages.

B
Possession Barrage — the tank runs straight away from the boss, 30+ yards. Stay off the line between them.
AbilityTypeWhat it doesWhat you do
Soulcoil WellDodgeThe necromantic zone in the centre. Standing in it deals shadow damage every second, and it draws the Restless Amani toward it.Stay out of it. Nothing reaches the well: each add that touches it grants 5 energy and triggers a Soulcoil Rite on the raid.
Restless AmaniKill itUndead spirits from the glowing coffins march to the well behind Gravebound Advance, a magic-absorb shield worth 25% of their health. Shielded, they cannot die or be stopped.Ranged break the shield with magic damage, then kill them before the water. Tank the boss toward the biggest coffin cluster so they die in cleave.
Soulcoil Ignition / Soulcoil RiteHealingDodgeShe teleports to the centre and applies 5 stacks of Soulcoil Rite: a shadow spike plus a stacking 24-second DoT. Anguished Echoes drift through the room during the cast.Healing cooldown on the overlap. Dodge the Echoes. On Heroic, go in with zero Ritual Burn stacks.
Essence RendDispelSpreadTraps random players, pulls them to the centre, then knocks them away with a dispellable 15-second shadow DoT. A Latent Cultist spawns where it ends or is dispelled.Targets run to the room edge before the dispel; healers wait until they get there. The Cultist puddle lasts the fight, so leave it out of the traffic paths.
Possession BarrageTankSpreadSpectral echoes fly from the boss to the active tank and explode on the first thing they hit; the farther they travel, the less raid damage. Detonations spawn more Restless Amani.Tank runs straight away, 30+ yards. Nobody stands on the line between boss and tank, or the echo detonates early and hits harder.
Hollowing StrikesTankHer melee attacks tear souls: a stacking 15-second shadow DoT that reduces healing received by 5% per stack.Taunt swap at about 5–6 stacks (Icy Veins) or 30–40% healing reduction (Method), timed so the new tank has her right after a Possession Barrage.
Latent CultistDodgeLeft behind by Essence Rend: a 6-yard shadow aura that slows by 40% and applies lingering necrotic damage.Treat it as permanent area denial and never path through it. In Stage Two, Invoke marches every puddle to a new spot.
Ritual BurnHeroic+HealingHeroic: Soulcoil Rite also applies Ritual Burn, which increases Soulcoil Rite damage taken by 15% per stack for one minute.Let stacks fall off between Rites. Enter Soulcoil Ignition at zero.
Vessel of AwakeningHeroic+Kill itHeroic: Restless Amani corpses stay where they die and are repossessed as empowered adds during the intermission.Where you kill them matters. Kill adds away from the well, in piles you can burn later with Hungering Pyre.
Soul Transfer / Echo of JawaeKill itA 15-second channel raises an Echo of Jawae on one side, then the other; the surge deals shadow damage on completion. Tether of Awakening keeps her immune until the Echo dies.Swap to the active Echo at once and cleave the adds around it. Don't stand in the beam at completion. Both Echoes dead ends the intermission.
Hungering PyreHeroic+SoakStackHeroic: the Echo erupts with fire damage split among players within 10 yards, and the pyre destroys any corpses it stands on. Anyone outside is targeted by Slithering Flame.Tank the Echo onto a corpse pile before the cast; melee soak with the tank.
Slithering Flame / CremationHeroic+KiteHeroic: a serpentine flame chases players who skipped the Pyre, stacking an 8-second DoT; when it expires it becomes Cremation, incinerating corpses within 4 yards.Mobile ranged skip the soak on purpose and walk the flame over stray corpses so they burn instead of rising.
UncoilingHealingContinuous shadow damage to the whole raid every 0.85 seconds until she dies.Bloodlust here. Rotate healing cooldowns. Method: "There is no Plan B."
InvokeDodgeTriggers a Soulcoil Rite whose stacks no longer fall off, and marches every Latent Cultist puddle to a new spot around the well. Mythic: also interrupts casts and silences for 3 seconds.Dodge the moving puddles. Fewer puddles placed in Stage One means less chaos here.
Uncoiled RageKill itAt 100 energy: +150% attack and movement speed, +500% damage, taunt immunity. The enrage.Kill her first. Track energy; every add at the well is 5 more.
Your job as HolyTwo scripted spikes: every Soulcoil Rite, and the Uncoiled Rage burn. Hold Avenging Wrath + Divine Toll for Rage if the kill is close; otherwise use them on Rite counts. Dispel Essence Rend only at the edges.

Method's one rule: nothing reaches the well. Icy Veins' overall plan: use Bloodlust when Nek'zali becomes active in Stage Two and defeat her before energy reaches 100.

  • Adds reaching the well unchecked, stacking energy too quickly.
  • Players standing in the Possession Barrage path, detonating the echo early for more raid damage.
  • Not enough healing through the overlapping DoTs in Stage Two.
  • Mythic: fumbling the Grasping Depths rotation, which wipes the raid.
Stage One decides Stage TwoPuddle placement and corpse positioning in Stage One directly set how hard the intermission and Stage Two are. Clean execution early is the strategy (Method).
Phases3
  1. Stage One · Soulcoiler Initiation
    Pull
  2. Intermission · Ritual of Awakening
Nek'zali retreats at 50% health (Warcraft Wiki, Method). Icy Veins describes the trigger as reaching 100 energy, with energy resetting for Stage Two.
  3. Stage Two · Uncoiling
Both Echoes of Jawae dead. The ritual completes and she returns at full power.
Healer plan
  • Dispel Essence Rend targets at the edge of the room, not where they land (Maxroll, Icy Veins).
  • Do not be between the boss and the tank when Possession Barrage is cast (Maxroll).
  • Healing cooldowns cover the Soulcoil Ignition overlap; on Heroic make sure Ritual Burn is at zero going in (Icy Veins, Method).
  • Corpse Blight from defeated Amani is a stacking 30-second plague DoT to manage (Warcraft Wiki).
  • Stage Two: Soulcoil Rite stacks no longer fall off after Invoke. Watch raid damage climb and rotate cooldowns into Uncoiling.
Positioning
  • Raid spread around the room perimeter; nobody on the boss-to-tank line during Possession Barrage.
  • Coffins glow in one major area and one adjacent minor area (2–3 adds); route adds away from the well or toward the boss.
  • Essence Rend resolves at the edges. Latent Cultist puddles go where nobody walks.
